Save Money Make Extra Money
Chapter One:

How To Cut Your Gas Expenses Significantly And
Help Reduce Air Pollution

If you're like many people, high gas prices have affected your life in various ways.

You might take shorter road trips, or you walk or ride your bike more often. Maybe you've cut back spending on food and entertainment, clothing, home furnishing, or electronics.

While there’s nothing we can do about the pricey fuel, I have wonderful news for you. You can do many things to conserve gas and save money without having to sacrifice in other areas.

In this book, you’ll discover 84 tested-and-proven tips for reducing your gasoline consumption. And, if you’re willing to apply them, you could save hundreds to thousands of dollars each year.

In the next chapter, we’ll discuss the first step to lowering your gas expenditure. Right now, let me share with you why fuel is so expensive these days.

According to gasbuddy.com, on April 10, 2008, the national average price for a litre of regular gasoline in Canada was $1.18, which was 12 cents higher than for the same time last year.

Here Are Four Main Reasons For Record Gas Prices:

  1. High prices of crude oil. A barrel of oil, which contains 159 litres, cost $110.11 USD on April 10, 2008.
  2. Low inventory. Refineries in Canada are currently producing at top capacity.
  3. Growing global demand for gasoline, especially from countries like China and India.
  4. The ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

Now, while I could list many other factors the experts say will keep gas prices high, doing so is unproductive. Fuel will remain expensive simply because demand for it is greater than the supply.

According to Statistics Canada, Canadians used 111 million litres of gasoline each day in 2005. So gas consumption likely is at least the same, or perhaps even more, today.

Considering the high demand and high prices, and even if prices stay around the $1.20 mark, you may be surprised to learn that Canadians pay less for gasoline than people in many other countries, such as England, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Hong Kong, and Japan. So, instead of griping about expensive fuel, let’s be proactive and take actions to reduce the amount of fuel we use.

If gasoline consumption in Canada decreases, the price will go down, especially if the supply stays the same or increases.

When we consume less fuel, we not only save money, but we also help reduce air pollution, making our planet a cleaner and more pleasant place for all of us to live, for ourselves and for generations to come.

According to a report by the Sierra Club in the United States titled, Highway Health Hazards, which was released on July 28, 2004: "Pollution from automobile tailpipes increases the risk of asthma, lung cancer, leukemia and other ailments, particularly in people who live near busy roads such as interstate highways." (Read the report.)

While your main goal for reading this book is probably to learn how to save money on gasoline, in the long term, the health benefits of using less fuel will be greater than the monetary rewards.

Depending on the type of vehicle you drive and the number of gas-saving tips you use, you could reduce your gas expenditure by as much as HALF. Imagine how much better your life will be if you could have this extra money to spend on other things.

I encourage you to implement as many money-saving suggestions from this book as possible, even if some of them may seem too simple to be effective.
